Rastra Bank introduces policy to develop tourism sector

KATHMANDU, Apr 30: The Nepal Rasta Bank has provided policy to banks and financial institutions to develop tourism sector. The National Bank has issued new guidelines aimed at making the tourism sector more accessible.

The new policy mandates that the Rastra Bank should invest 5 percent tourism sector in the field of production sector. According to the old definition, trekking, travel agency, mountaineering, resort, exporting, rafting, hotel, entertainment, recreation and film industry defined tourism.  

The new direction also includes trekking, travel agency, mountaineering, resort, rafting and also fishing and camping, tour operator, hilling center, casino, and massage spa included.

Also hotels, tourism houses, motels, rural tourism, Homestay and restaurants, environmental tourism, wildlife reserves are also included in the tourism industry. Likewise entertainment, entertainment park, recreation, film, as well as skiing, gliding, water racing, hot air ballooning, canoeing, horse riding, Bungee jumping, mountain climbing and observation are also added.

Transport Services in Kathmandu Valley, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi will also be part of the tourism sector. The new provision will help to increase investment in tourism sector in the bank and financial sectors.
