THE HAGUE, Feb 05: Air traffic to and from the Netherlands' Rotterdam-The Hague Airport has been shut down because of a small-scale smoke in the basement of air traffic control building, said the airport's website on Monday afternoon.
Part of the building has been evacuated, but public areas such as the departure hall are still accessible, the Rotterdam-Rijnmond safety region announced on its website.
There is "smoke development in a technical room" and "it seems there is something smouldering, but there are no flames," a spokesperson of the safety region said.
While the airport fire brigade is searching for the cause of the smoke at some distance of the runways, air traffic has been halted as a precaution. One flight to London has been cancelled, other flights suffer delays. Enditem
