The program was being conducted in order to negate the negative press regarding Nepali tourism after the deadly earthquake and economic blockade of 2015, and to send the message that Nepal is again a safe destination to travel. Nepal Tourism Board had supported the program for the same reason. The program was set to take place on March 10 at the Tundikhel ground.
Organizer ODC International has not formally announced a cancellation of the program. A spokesperson communicated that the organization is in talks with Khan's team to decide on a new date for the program.
Over 60 actors were set to perform at the event on March 10. The event was expected to attract around 50, 000 viewers, including 10,000 foreigners.
Deepak Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, said, "Events are very important to promote destinations and this event will also be one of the instrumental to promote Nepal to recover our tourism." The unexpected development has taken away from the original message of safety and invitation and added an image of instability.
