Saraswati Puja: Celebrating the day of knowledge

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Saraswati Puja, also known as Vasant Panchami, is celebrated on January 22 every year. This festival is celebrated as the Hindu spring festival which marks the end of winter. Goddess Saraswati, the deity of all learning and art form is worshipped on this day.

On this day, students, professionals, artists, musicians and scholars worship Goddess Saraswati seeking wisdom, artistic and technical skills, academic excellence and a good heart. It is believed that worshipping her with devotion and faith will help sharpen the perception, knowledge, abilities, talents, artistic and technical capabilities and academic performance.

This day is very auspicious, especially for students. It is believed, Saraswati Puja or Shree Panchami is the best day to start learning new things. The walls of Saraswati temples exhibit Nepali alphabets and numbers. On this day, kids start writing their first letters and alphabets. Students also worship goddess Saraswati with great respect by offering varieties of sweets, garlands, and tika. They worship books, pens, notebooks, and other instruments. Musicians also worship their instruments.
