Sikali Jatra in Khokana (Photo Feature)

Locals of Khokana, a Newari heritage site in the southern part of Lalitpur district of Kathmandu Valley, celebrate Sikali Jatra instead of Dashain. According to the same tradition, Sikali Jatra has been celebrated this year as well. In the Sikali Jatra which starts from Ghatasthapana, the goddess is celebrated as 'Sikali' or Amadevi. The ritual begins with the carrying of Goddess Rudrayani and Sikali on wooden manure throughout the village. Large copper vessels are placed in front of the Khokana temple. Drama is also shown in the procession. In which one is based on the end of the monster and the other is based on the native story.
