Stakeholders emphasize on need for domestic tourism promotion for revival of tourism

KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Stakeholders have emphasized that domestic tourism is the only alternative to revive the tourism industry of Nepal as there is no immediate possibility of international tourist arrivals due to the Corona pandemic. They said this between a tourism conversation program on 'Sustainable Internal Tourism: First Step for Tourism Revival' organized by Tourism Recovery Task Force (TRTF) Nepal with stakeholders on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the President of the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Shreejana Rana, said that integrated approach should be taken for the promotion of domestic tourism by coordinating among all the stakeholders. Likewise, President of the Airline Operators Association Nepal (AOAN), Rameshwar Thapa, said that although the airspace was more affected sector due to the corona, there has been some relief due to the opening of domestic flights.
Deepak Raj Joshi, Coordinator of the Tourism Recovery Task Force (TRTF), pointed out the need for coordination among the three levels of government for the promotion of domestic tourism. President of the Paschimanchal Hotel Association Pokhara ( HAN Pokhara), Bikal Tulachan, said that there was no alternative but to focus on domestic tourism to keep the economic activities going. He opined that not only Pokhara, Lumbini, and Chitwan but also other connected destinations should be taken along for the promotion.
Similarly, Secretary of Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) Amar Bahadur Shahi and Member of Dharan Tourism Development Committee Alina Magar said that domestic tourism should be made operational by paying special attention to health security.
