State 5 making preparations for electric bus service

KATHMANDU, July 04: The State 5 government is making preparations to start electric bus service in major cities, including those in Rupandehi, Dang, and Banke. It is also working to start tourist bus service on the Buddha circuit.

Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment of State 5, Lila Giri, said that the service is being started as they can be useful in the development of tourism sector in the region. The state has been giving its first priority to the development of the tourism sector and is starting the bus service targeting for a possible metropolitan city. Minister Giri said that the electric buses will be an added convenience to travelers as well as being environment-friendly.

The state government is planning the operation of electric buses in 3 major cities and to start tourist bus service in the locations significant to Buddhism in Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, and Kapilvastu. The Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City will be collaborating for the operation of the tourist bus service.

Press Adviser to the Chief Minister, Sher Bahadur K.C., said that budget allocation has been done to conduct tourist bus service in the Buddha circuit. 50 million rupees has been allocated for the tourist bus service.

Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel said that feasibility study will be conducted for private-public partnership for the tourist bus service, and the service will accommodate the various locations related to the Buddhist faith and other tourist areas.
