Team of experts formed to find location for new domestic airport

KATHMANDU, May 04: A team of experts has been formed to find an appropriate location for a new domestic airport. The team has been tasked with finding the location within 15 days.

A ministers' council meeting formed the group of 6 experts for technical study and suggestion. The team includes Er. Kamal Kumar K.C. as Coordinator, while members include Er. Dhurba Das Bhuchibhoya and Baburam Poudel from CAAN, Subarna Upadhaya, and Sitaram Bhandari. The General Secretary of the group is Er. Nal Bikram Thapa.

A team headed by the Minister of Aviation Rabindra Adhikari, along with officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), and Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), had visited Nagidanda, Thulichaur, and Chisapani at Kavrepalanchok district as potential sites for a domestic airport. After the inspection, Minister Adhikari said that an expert team would be formed to make the final decision on the matter.

Minister Adhikari has been involved in plans to construct a new domestic airport in Kathmandu Valley to ease congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport. He had declared that he would complete a feasibility study for a new domestic airport within 100 days of taking office.

Locals and the municipality of Thulichaur had already protested to CAAN's earlier efforts at conducting a feasibility study at the location. After the protest, it has already started preliminary feasibility study at Nagidanda.
