KATHMANDU, Aug 07: The government will be providing free wifi service at Tribhuvan International Airport from coming October, around the time of the Dashain festival. Although the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, had ordered for free wifi service to be installed at the airport two months ago, the facility is yet to be put in place.
A technical team had put out a tender to private ISPs shortly after Minister Adhikari made the order. WorldLink was selected through the tender process and had started the work a month ago after agreement with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Despite the speedy arrangement for the wifi service to be put in place, WorldLink has been unable to finish the work one month after the agreement. Although the agreement defined that the work be completed within one month, the outlet work is still taking place, informed technical engineer at the airport, Suresh Shah. He said that the wifi service will be in a testing phase for one month before being made available to the public.
