KATHAMNDU, April 12:  The Tourism Department has been unable to waive the mountain-climbing royalties for certain groups who are attempting to summit Mt. Everest this Spring. The Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) had requested on the behalf of a number of expeditions, including all-women expeditions to waive the mountain-climbing royalties.

However, the $2000 charge for the government Information Official, who compulsorily has to accompany the mountaineers, has been waived by the Tourism Department for all groups referred by TAAN. All the groups have also successfully received the permission to climb Mt Everest from the department, said TAAN media coordinator Gopal Shrestha.
