KATHMANDU, Aug 16: The Tourism Department has set up a new Tourist Information Management System in 12 regions outside the valley to keep information about tourists engaged in trekking activities. As tourists often go on trekking in dangerous areas without guides and tend to get lost, the department set up  the new system as a safety feature in collaboration with the Nepal Police Computer Directory.

The system has been set up in Lukla, Solukhumbu; Janaki Temple in Dhanusha; Birgunj; Sauraha; Syafrubesi, Rasuwa; Birethanti, Kaski; Dhampus; Ghandruk; Jomsom, Mustang; Chaame Manang; Ghorepani, Myagdi; and Lumbini to keep accurate information about tourists at all times.

The Tourist Police has trained all its units outside the valley on operating the system. Chief of Tourist Police Bhrikutimandap Branch, Rupa Thapa, said that the system will provide tourist police information about tourists coming in and going out of any place where they are posted. The system will also incorporate the whereabouts of any trekking company, trekking guide, time of arrival and departure from any marking point, etc. The information that is circulated on the system can also be viewed from the Bhrikutimandap office.
