POKHARA, Nov 12: The tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara worried due to the inflow of more budget tourists. Most of the tourist visiting Nepal have short period of stay. As per the tourism entrepreneurs, high-end tourists are visiting in less number these days.
They said that Three month period from September- November is known as the peak time for the tourist arrival which now has shrunk to just around a month. Besides these, the growing number of service providers is another matter of concern for the entrepreneurs.
Agni Kandel, member of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said that the number of high-end tourists travelling to Nepal has declined compared to the previous years. “These days most of the foreign tourists haggle for almost everything. From accommodation to shopping, they bargain and try to wrap up their tour with minimal spending,” Kandel said. Although the number of domestic tourists increased in this festive season of Dashain and Tihar, the number of foreign tourists disappointed the entrepreneurs, he added.
According to the former president of Paschimanchal Regional Association of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Dipak Raj Adhikari entrepreneurs are not happy with the seasonal business this year. “This is the best time to earn from trekkers, however in recent years our earning is depleting,” he said.
“The number of budget tourists is increasing, and the number of high-end tourists is reducing these days,” said Surya Thapaliya, manager of NTB Pokhara. “On top of that, rising competition among service providers has also lowered costs for tourists.”
Moreover, their foreign tourists’ expenses are also decreasing due to growing exchange rate of American dollar.
