Tourism entrepreneurs of Nagarkot takes on CDO protesting the levying of extra tax on tourists

NAGARKOT, Nov. 17: The tourism entrepreneurs of Nagarkot, the esteemed hill station near Kathmandu took to the Chief District Office protesting against the tax levied by the Changunarayan Municipality on the tourists.
Though the Federal Affairs and Local Development Ministry have issued circular announcing the ban on the extra levy of tax on the tourists the Changunarayan Municipality has been charging the tourists.
Nagarkot receives 400 thousand tourists every year and the tourists arriving here also visit the adjoining Changunarayan area where they have to pay extra taxes levied by the local body.
The municipality has fixed the tax of Nrs. 200 for the SAARC member countries citizen and Nrs. 300 on the citizens from other countries, the entrepreneurs on the other side are demanding to pull it down.
The Chief District Officer here has made the commitment to take this thing to the ministry.
“We will write to the ministry regarding this matter and will stop the unauthorized levying of the tax which indeed is the burden for the tourists,” Droda Pokhrel, Chief District Officer said.
