Non-Resident Nepali Association and Thai-Nepali Association in Phuket also contributed to coordinate the programme. A large number of travel agents/tour operators, media persons and representatives of Nepali associations, totalling more than 100 persons, participated in the programme. High level government officials from Phuket, including Vice Governor Sanit Sriwihok, Chief of Public Relations Department, President of Sports Association, and President of Phuket Tourism Board attended the programme.
The Honorary Consul welcomed the participants, and spoke about tourism attractions in Nepal, including Lumbini. She said that the people of both countries were the true link for the strengthening of Nepal-Thailand relations. She called upon the participants to visit and encourage people to visit Nepal and thus help Nepal.
Addressing the programme, Ambassador Dr. Khaga Nath Adhikari mentioned the tourism attractions in Nepal, including Lumbini, trekking, mountaineering and cultural sites, and encouraged Thailand to be ranked first by sending more tourists to visit Lumbini.
Similarly, Vice Governor Snith Sriwihok, NRNA representative Prem Danai and a world traveler from among the audience, a Thai trekker who is planning to visit Nepal for trekking soon, also addressed the gathering.
In view of the increasing interest among Thai nationals in trekking, the Embassy this time focused on trekking in Nepal. Besides detailed presentation on trekking in Nepal, an information sheet was also distributed to the participants.
The programme was believed to have greatly contributed to publicising Nepal around the area, and thus contributing to promote Nepal's tourism, cultural understanding between Nepal and Thailand, and encouraging Thai nationals to go for trekking in Nepal.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Ambassador also met the Governor of Phuket and talked about matters of mutual interest. He specifically thanked the Governor for Phuket Administration's help and support for Nepalese people in the province, and requested him for the same in the days ahead, too.
