Tourists compelled to pay double tax in Nagarkot

KATHMANDU, Oct 01: Foreigners are compelled to pay double tax while visiting Nagarkot. Due to the disagreement between Bhaktapur Municipality and Kavre Municipality, the tourists have to pay tourist tax to both of the municipalities as Nagarkot lies in the border of Bhaktapur and Kavre.

Chief of Changunarayan Municipality, Som Mishra said that they are conducting meetings to resolve the disputes between two municipalities for collecting tax so that the tourists will not have to pay double tax. Likewise, Mandan Deupur Municipality is planning to charge entrance fee from the tourists visiting Kavrechowk, View Tower Check and Kartike Region.

As per the issued information, municipalities can charge 300 rupees for international tourists and 200 rupees for the tourists of SAARC region. Chairman of Deupur Rular Municipality said that this type of dispute is causing negative effects on the tourists arriving to Nagarkot so we should solve this problem as soon as possible by settling the clause of both municipalities.

Likewise, General Secretary of Nagarkot- Maldum Tourism Development Committee, Dhan Bahadur Lama mentioned that the condition of Kamalbinayak- Kanarkot road is very poor and collection of the double tourist fee is spreading negative impact in tourism business.
