KATHMANDU, July 31: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai has said that the Tribhuvan International Airport will come into operation with new service facilities.
Minister Bhattarai, who inspected the airport on Friday, said that the airport with new service facilities will be operational from August 17 as the construction work of the airport has been completed. Minister Bhattarai said that many infrastructures were built when the airport was closed for four months due to Covid 19.
He said that the runway of the airport has been increased by 300 meters and now there will be more security in both landing and taking off. He also said that the construction of a departure hall with a capacity of 1,500 has been completed. Parking lots have also been added at the airport during the lockdown. Minister Bhattarai also said that this would reduce the need to hold ships in the sky to some extent. Earlier, when there was less parking at the airport, the ship had to be held in the sky. Luggage belts have also been added at the airport.
The government has decided to bring Tribhuvan International Airport into operation from August 17. Therefore, Minister Bhattarai has reached the airport to inspect the condition of the airport. He also said that he has instructed the airport administration to complete the necessary preparations for the operation of the airport by maintaining physical distance. The airport plans to operate the departure hall at half capacity, given the risk of Covid 19 infection.
