UIAA meeting starts at Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Mar 23: The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) has started its management committee meeting in Kathmandu on Friday at Hotel Annapurna. The meeting will take place for two days and is being attended by President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Santa Bir Lama, and Joint Secretary of the Tourism Ministry, Ram Prasad Sapkota.
UIAA is the umbrella organization of all mountaineering associations across the globe. The meeting will also discuss the new laws and provisions being developed by the Nepal government in the mountaineering sector. Joint Secretary of Tourism Ministry Ram Prasad Sapkota said that the government will welcome suggestions from the organizations in improving the mountaineering sector in Nepal.
As Nepal is one of the mountaineering sport hubs of the world, NMA President Santa Bir Lama said that being able to host the meeting is a matter of pride for he country. The 21-member work committee of UIAA includes representatives from Netherlands, Hungary, America, France, Switzerland, Italy, China, Argentina, Britain, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Nepal, Italy, and Spain.
