UNDP Assistant Secretary General Wignaraja lauds Nepal Tourism Board

KATHMANDU, June 10: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has held discussions and interaction with Ms. Kanni Wignaraja,  Assistant Secretary General  of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Asia-Pacific Regional Director on the programs undertaken by the UNDP Tourism Board. At a program organized at the Nepal Tourism Board on Wednesday, June 8, UNDP Assistant Secretary General and Asia-Pacific Regional Director Wignaraja said that the UNDP had a long-standing cooperation with the NTB.

Stating that tourism is an important sector of economic development, he expressed confidence that the work done by the board for tourism workers such as job creation and expansion of tourist destinations would help in the promotion of Lego tourism. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of NTB, Maheshwar Neupane said that the cooperation of UNDP has had a positive impact on Nepal's tourism development.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of  NTB, said that UNDP has been contributing to the institutional development of tourism in Nepal for a long time and hoped for continuous support from UNDP in the coming days. He said that the recent Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP). with the support of UNDP has helped in the creation of short-term employment and development of tourist destinations by minimizing the impact of Covid on the tourism sector.

Similarly, Maniraj Lamichhane, director of the board, said that the board has been able to provide short-term employment to about 6,000 people through the STLRP program.
