Vivek Sharma: We are optimistic towards the growth of hotel industry in Nepal

Hotel industry is one of the crucial aspect of the Nepal's tourism. To know the present context of the hotel industry in Nepal, we interviewed Hotel Manager at Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu, Mr. Vivek Sharma, who has 20 years of work experience in the various hotel industry of Nepal and India. Q: Can you briefly introduce us to Fairfield by Marriott?

Q: What makes Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu unique from other hotels?
A: We have various hotels in the Kathmandu valley but, Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu is known for its hospitality. Once tourists visit out hotels they come back. Marriott is itself a brand that has a lot of people who have respect for the hotel. We have spread our hotels all over the places looking at its potential, and we do get lots of guests as the programs of Marriott are the strongest.
Q: What is the condition of the hotel industry in the present context?
A: Due to the spread of the coronavirus, there is a bit slow down is the business but we are optimistic that we will grow again maybe in months or years. There is a lot of potential in the hotel industry definitely, due to the travel ban from the different countries, there is a shortfall in the business, but it will not last long and we will come back stronger with stronger business.
Q: What is your view towards the government's role in VNY 2020? What are the challenges in the hotel industry in today's context?
A: The government has played a vital role in promoting Nepal by organizing promotional programs in various parts of the world. The government has also asked the hotel industry to play its role from its sides. We have also organized various programs for the promotion of VNY 2020, but unfortunately due to the spread of the coronavirus, there is a fall in the arrival of tourists. However, we can recover our loss after the mid-year.
Q: What are the further plans of Fairfield by Marriott to grow its market?
A: We are expanding our business with proper plans. We are looking for areas where we can attract tourists. Nepal is the country where there is a lot of tourism potentiality, and we are organizing various marketing events accordingly. Also, we have at least 4 food festivals a year to attract local tourists.
