Committee formed to maintain the standards  to Fewa Lake

POKHARA, Nov 30:To implement the standards of Fewa Lake, a committee has been formed under the coordination of Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, Gandaki Chief Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet, Major General Deepak Kumar Baniya, Gandaki Chief Advocate Chiranjeevi Sharma, and Kaski Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire are members of the committee.


Members of the committee include Gandaki State Police Chief DIG Wuddhiraj Gurung, Armed Police DIG Kalidas Dhawaji, National Investigation Director Krishna Khanal, Pokhara Metropolitan Chief Administrative Officer Shyamakrishna Thapa, and Lake Authority Gandaki Director Kalpana Devkota.

According to a meeting participant, the Gandaki Province Security Committee met in Pokhara on Wednesday and decided to form a committee to maintain the standards of Fewa Lake.

On September 26, 2023, the full text of the Supreme Court's decision on the implementation of Fewa lake standards was published. According to the full text of the judgment, it has been ordered to maintain and protect the standard of Fewa Lake within 6 months.

In the event of such removal, the land registered after 1974 AD will not be compensated. The city executive of Pokhara metropolis decided on March 30, 2022, to maintain a 30-meter standard around the border of Fewa lake.

However, the Supreme Court overturned this decision. Houses, businesses, hotels, restaurants, resorts, and all other personal, government, or public physical structures within 65 meters of Fewa Lake's highest water level were ordered to be removed and evacuated within 6 months. The verdict states, 'The said 65-meter intermediate area will be declared as a green area and maintained accordingly.'
