KATHMANDU, May 18: Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa, the president of Yeti Group and a senior tourism businessman, has successfully ascended Mount Everest. Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa is the late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepalese woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa reached the summit of Everest at 7:34 a.m. on Wednesday, according to his family.

Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa set out for Everest on April 17 from Kathmandu. Along with Sonam Sherpa, the climbing team includes Zangbu Sherpa, Pemtengi Sherpa, Pemba Sherpa, and French climber Robert Morachini. They arrived at Everest Camp 4 on Tuesday afternoon and left for the summit at 8 p.m. yesterday.

Along with climbing Everest, Lakpa Sonam Sherpa has successfully scaled the highest peak on each of the world's seven continents. Sherpa was born in Pangom, Ward No. 1, Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu, at the age of 63.

Sherpa, who organised hundreds of expeditions from his company - Thamserku Trekking - in the last four decades, has also become one of the few climbers to have completed all 'real' seven summits including the summit of Mt Carstensz. He is the founder of Thamserku Trekking and the Executive Chairman of Yeti Airlines, as well as a businessman active in hotels and hydropower.

Mount Vinson in Antarctica, Mount Puncock/Mount Carstensz in Oceania, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Denali in North America, and Mount Aconcagua in South America have all been climbed by him.

He has also climbed Mount Blanc, Europe's highest mountain, Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and other peaks.
